Circus Skills

Lanson YFC welcomed Richard Gribble to lead this week’s club meeting. He briefly spoke about how he became interested in ‘Circus Skills’ before demonstrating how to use an eclectic range of circus equipment. His enthusiasm quickly inspired members to practise their skills which included spinning plates, juggling balls, walking on stilts and performing tricks with diablos.

The evening brought back happy memories to the club, as four years ago a cabaret performance ‘Out of The Box’ (which involved many of these skills) won the National YFC entertainment final.

Many thanks to Richard for a very enjoyable evening.

Pantomime Round - Liskeard Town Hall

On Sunday 15th January Launceston YFC performed to a full house of YFC supporters in their first round of the pantomime competition with ‘‘Cinderella (Or an Agricultural Fantasy)’’. Everyone performed to their best ability with cast members pleased with their pantomime.

Liskeard YFC and Callington YFC also performed to a good level so this is definitely a high standard of competition. All three clubs are awaiting the results, with scores being revealed after the West Pantomime Round which takes place at St John’s Hall, Penzance on Sunday 29th January.

Very well done to everyone involved!

Parents Night

Launceston YFC welcomed a large crowd of family and friends at Parents Night on Wednesday evening.

The Club’s Chairman, Dan Batten, and Secretary, Jess Brookham, gave an interesting report to round up the busy events of last year - with members helping to illustrate some of the highlights. They then presented a slideshow of photographs (many thanks to Steve Butter!) to conclude.

After a short break, Lanson YFC presented their entertainment act; members pulled out all the stops and performed extremely well in front of the supporters. The club showed their appreciation of the help given by Janet Ham, Mike and Becky Stevens and Will Uglow. The first round of the pantomime competition will be held on Sunday 15th January at Liskeard Town Hall, .

Theatre Royal Plymouth- Pantomime

Launceston YFC had an evening of laughter when they travelled to Plymouth to see this year’s pantomime, Cinderella.

Starring Julian Clary (Dandini), Keith Harris (Buttons), Orville and Cuddles, members enjoyed the pantomime magic with an abundance of comedy, stunning sets and fabulous costumes.

It will be a hard act to follow, but Lanson YFC’s dedicated members are prepared to step up to the challenge with their own version of Cinderella. Their first performance is this WEDNESDAY at Launceston Town Hall, 7.30. Everyone is welcome.

About Launceston YFC

Launceston Young Farmers Club was established in 1947 and is run by members for members.

We have weekly meetings on Thursdays which range from talks on homeopathy or photography to activities such as circus skills or beach barbeques and visits to farms, tourist attractions and businesses.

We take part in many competitions and events across the county and country with great sucess, and do the odd bit of socialising as well...

The club is a charitable organisation itself, but we also engage in fundraising events for other charities, raising over £2000 last year.

Members range in age from 16 to 26 and anyone is welcome to join.
